Dr. Tom Salzar discusses treatments for Sinusitis.
The cause of the inflammation can be infection, viral, allergic, or chemical. Typically if you have Sinusitis it’s due to a bacteria.
There are several treatment options for Sinusitis. Of course the most obvious and holistic ones would be to avoid whatever the causative agent is that is causing the inflammation.
Occasionally, the treatment of Sinusitis involves surgery. Usually that happens when there is some anatomic or inflammatory obstruction that is keeping the sinuses from being able to drain and keeping you from being able to get over your sinus infection.
Usually surgery is focused on trying to relieve that obstruction. There are a variety of ways to do that. The more traditional ways are more destructive. We have evolved now to where we are able to do minimally invasive surgery in an outpatient setting with minimal bruising and discomfort. We use a combination of balloons, microdebriders, and things that allow for minimal injury and rapid recovery.
