I think it is really important to understand that you are usually prescribed physical therapy because of pain. Pain limits motion and it really limits, not just motion in general, but appropriate motion. That is what physical therapy is really about today. It is about changing that abnormal motion back to normalized mechanics. Back to the way it really should feel, to the way it should move.
From that perspective, we always think about it being two distinct or two different areas that we are interested in from a therapy perspective. One is comfort, and that is basically how our body perceives the pain and how our body reacts to the pain in the movement that it has. The other is confidence and that comes back to the idea that our brain is pretty smart. It understands, not just pain, but the apprehension of pain and it responds appropriately.
Those are the two things that therapy tries to address, and we have to in order to normalize the motion and get you back to doing what you want to be doing.
