Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid Arthritis is an Autoimmune disease that affects mainly the joints. It is twice as common in women than men, but it can occur at any age. Dr. Rajpreet Singh discusses indepth the effects of Rheumatoid Arthritis in this weeks Brazos Valley Journal of Medicine.

The symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis include pain and swelling of the joints. Some people may have one or two joints affected, most commonly the hands and the feet, but some patients will have several joints affected.

We do have a better understanding of it. It is Autoimmune, or your own body attacking itself, mainly the joints. And as we do have a better understanding of the disease, we have much better treatments available, which makes early diagnosis very important, as we do have very good treatments. Many studies have shown that early treatment does provide better outcomes and help to prevent disability in the long term and decrease pain in the short term.
