Negative Pressure Therapy is a vacuum system that is applied to the wound. A foam is placed to the wound bed and it works by exerting direct contractile affects upon the individual cells. That is the mechanism of its action. A patient would walk around with a unit that is connected to the wound, and the foam which goes on the wound bed.
The Bioengineered Skin Substitutes are sheets of fibroblast, essentially. Those are placed on to the wound bed instead of a standard dressing and they facilitate more rapid healing. The standard of care is if a wound in somebody with diabetes does not decrease by fifty percent, over a four week period of time, the standard care is to proceed with one of these Bioengineered Skin Substitutes.
