In today’s Brazos Valley Physicians Organization Journal of Medicine report Dr Kumud Tripathy discusses prostate cancer.
"Most patients who have prostate cancer, they die with it, they don’t die from it. It tends to be more aggressive in younger patients. You can biopsy and find the cancers that are more aggressive. There is a way to grade the tumor. Something with a high grade, that is more aggressive, they need treatment.
On the other hand there are some that are lower grade. Prostate cancer in younger patients live longer. So if you find the cancer it has a longer period to grow and spread. The usual recommendation for PSA was after the age of fifty. We don’t have great chemotherapy drugs but there are several drugs that have been discovered and approved during the last three or four years that are effective."
The Brazos Valley Physicians Organization is a group of independent physicians who are determined to preserve the choice and sanctity of the patient physician relationship. Our vision is that the patient always comes first.
