In today’s Brazos Valley Physicians Organization Journal of Medicine Report, Leon Bradway talks about osteoarthritis resulting from sports injuries.
"Believe it or not, moms and dads, with your young sport athlete out there and those that have recurring injuries whether its ankle injuries or knee injury or even a hip injury. A lot of these kids can over the years can start to develop what’s called osteoarthritis of these joints and that can be very serious later in life.
"Many of the kids today are so involved in these sports activities they’re running year around. Generally what’s happens is most of the time a lot of the kids aren’t getting some of the rehabilitation they need to get back on the playing field to where they’re completely healed. It’s important that if your child has an injury, that you make sure the rehab is complete, the child is doing well before they go back to the sporting event and that they’re doing some good strengthening of those structures that are causing the problem."
