Houston Resident Remembers Surviving CS Shooting on Anniversary

HOUSTON Several people were injured in the shooting one year ago that claimed the lives of Brazos County Constable Brian Bachmann and bystander Chris Northcliffe, but none as critically as Barbara Holdsworth.

She was helping her Texas A&M student daughter move from a rental house on Highland Street to a sorority house.

In her first T-V news interview since she narrowly survived after being shot twice, she told me what she remembers from one year ago.

Holdsworlth said, "I still have one in me."

She lives with part of a bullet lodged near her heart. Doctors say it was too risky to remove.

On this day in her Houston home she remembers almost everything about the events in College Station one year ago, and what 2 of the 17 bullets that pierced her car did to her life, nearly killing her.

She was driving to her daughter's college rental house.
"And as I turned the last corner I was struck in my car, and I was lucky enough to make it into her driveway and at some point I was struck a second time."

Police communications tell the story that day.
"There is an active shooter. We have 2 officers down that we know of and 1 female that's been shot in her vehicle."

That female was Barbara, who had lost a lot of blood, and could hear the gunshots still ringing out from down the street. A friend, Tim Irvin, told her to get down in the seat.

"You were this close, Barbara. I know. I know. And I just layed in that car and prayed and asked Tim to take care of my children, if need be, and that was my main concern. I had a lot to fight for, and a lot to live for and I tried to hang on and I was very blessed."

After paramedics arrived, she was rushed to the St. Joseph Hospital emergency room where doctors and nurses continued saving her life.

And one year later, through all the treatment and therapy she has undergone, Barbara has so many thanks to extend to family, friends, and the Bryan-College Station community for:

"..the immediate love and support and prayer that I felt and my family felt."
