NASCAR Driver Jeff Gordon Makes a Pit Stop in New A&M Car

COLLEGE STATION NASCAR superstar driver Jeff Gordon made a pit stop at Texas A&M Thursday afternoon.

He unveiled an all-Aggie look for the race car he's driving in Sunday's NASCAR race in Fort Worth.

Revving his engine, Gordon took a short ride on the Texas A&M campus to reveal the all- Aggie look for his Chevrolet SS that he'll drive in Sunday's Duck Commander 500 at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth.

At an earlier news conference on campus, Gordon talked about what it meant to drive a car with A&M written all over it.

"This is certainly exciting to have a winning organization and team with a lot of pride from not only students but all of its alumni and fans around the world, but that's going to put an extreme amount of pressure on our race team this weekend to go out and and do what they've been doing, which is winning."

The custom paint job was paid for by Axalta Coating Systems. Their CEO, Charles Shaver, earned an engineering degree from Texas A&M in 1980.

His company and the College of Engineering are featured on the car Gordon will drive.

Shaver said, "The maroon for this weekend, we made that one up. I think you'll see it on the show car out here in a little while. It's a really pretty color."

Dr. Kathy Banks, Texas A&M's Vice Chancellor for Engineering said,
"We're trying to bring in more real world experiences. We often talk about bringing the real world into the classroom. This is an excellent example of taking classroom into the real world."

For some Texas A&M students in general, it was just too cool to see Aggie Maroon headed to the Texas Motor Speedway.

"I think it's great exposure for university"

"I would have preferred #12 on side being 12th Man and all. It is really nice."

"I'm watching race on Sunday, I tell you that much, buddy."

Yell Leaders, Aggie Dancers, students, and others helped pump up Gordon for Sunday's race.

A&M mascot Reveille was a no show as far as we could tell, maybe because of that "chasing cars thing".
