COLLEGE STATION, Texas Thousands of Special Olympic athletes are headed to the Bryan/College Station area to compete for glory, but officials say help is needed to make the event run smoothly.

Officials with the Fall Classic Special Olympic event said more than 1,800 athletes will be competing in events like aquatics, bocce and golf in the two-day competition.

Opening ceremonies for the event are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at the Brazos county Expo Complex in the 5800 block of Leonard Road in Bryan. All events are free to the public.

Officials with the event said they need more than 1,000 volunteers to pull an even like this off, and they're running a bit short. Officials said you don't need sports experience to help out. If you're interested, call 800-876-5646, or click on the link below.
