A crash in Montgomery County left one person dead and injured six others, including five children.
Just before 6 p.m. Thursday evening two large oversize loads were traveling southbound on FM 1485 south of SH 242.
Both rigs had escort trucks with them who were moving northbound vehicles to the shoulder.
As they passed Oak Grove the lead escort directed a female driver in a Ford SUV to the right shoulder.
As soon as the escort passed that female went back into the moving lane of traffic and entered the left turn lane for Oak Grove.
As she entered the left turn lane she slammed into the large piece of equipment the cargo truck was hauling.
The force of the impact ripped the driver side of the vehicle completely open killing the female instantly.
Another female passenger in the passenger seat was injured as were five children. The most extensive injury of the children was a broken leg.
Several ambulances and New Caney Fire Department responded to the scene.
FM 1485 remained closed until almost 11 p.m.
The names have not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
Judge James Metts pronounced her dead on the scene and order Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport her to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy.
Several other vehicles were also damaged by flying debris and by the SUV.
