She won the election, then resigned, then retracted that resignation. Now, Cassandra Butler is out again as a Hearne Councilmember.
In a vote after an executive session earlier this week, the city council voted that Butler should not remain on the council. According to Mayor Milton Johnson, the council's decision came because Butler retraction of her resignation came after period of time allotted for that retraction.
Johnson did not have a vote, but believes Butler should have remained.
"I believe in letting the people decide who they want to serve, and in my opinion, the decision was already made before we went into the special session," Johnson said.
In a phone conversation Friday, Butler said she would take legal action against the city. Other members of the city council did not return calls.
