Residents in Bryan are now eligible for a bigger discount on flood insurance.
The city of Bryan has been promoted from a Class 9 to a Class 7 within the Community Rating System by the Insurance Services Offices.
That means starting on October 1, homeowners can purchase flood insurance and receive a 15 percent discount.
Bryan’s City Engineer Paul Kaspar said constantly keeping residents aware of how they can reduce their flood losses helped the city achieve its new class status.
"We’re doing mail out campaigns annually to folks who are in the flood plains in getting the word out about flood insurance, protection, flood proofing of homes and that type of information,” Kaspar said.
Bryan now ranks in the top 30 percent of communities across the United States that takes part in the Community Rating System.
