A top Walker County official announces he is switching political parties Tuesday.

District Attorney, David P. Weeks, is changing from a Democrat to a Republican. Walker County's Democratic Party says it's disappointed by the move.

Weeks has been the District Attorney for nearly 13 years and says he thought long and hard about his decision.

"I came to the realization that my beliefs, particularly in the field of criminal justice differ from those in the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party has left me," said Weeks.

Weeks' terms ends in 2006, and he says he does plan to run for re-election.
