August 2010 One Of The Warmest Ever
August 2010 recorded 22 days of 100 or over degree temperatures this past month. Take that and combine it with overnight lows near 80s degrees, and the month will go into the record books tied with July 2009 as the warmest ever recorded in College Station history.

The summer of 2009 went down in the books as the hottest on record as the Brazos Valley endured a crippling drought amongst countless 100 degree or more afternoons.
With the summer of 2010 starting off on a rather wet and relatively cooler than normal note, we made it through all of June and July without topping 100 degrees. And then we turned the corner into the month of August.
In the past few weeks, lawns have turned a dry brown and multiple grass fires have popped up across the Brazos Valley prompting county commissioners to order Burn Bans across the area...including Robertson, Leon, Madison, Grimes, Washington, Walker and San Jacinto Counties. And all the while, we've been stuck sweating it out under a persistent ridge of hot and humid high pressure.
When you put it down on paper, July of 09 and this past August pretty much played out almost exactly the same. We recorded 22 days at or above 100 this past month, with our hottest afternoon topping off at 107, which ended up breaking and replacing a record on the 24th, however, in July of last year we made it into the record books seven times for the same feat.
So that leaves August of 2010 and July of 2009 exactly tied for first place as the warmest month ever on record at Easterwood Airport with an average temperature of 89.1 degrees. The title of the second warmest month goes to July of 1998 and the third dates all the way back to August 1951 with an average temperature of 88.5 degrees.

So did any of you global warming deniers get out and make your Al Gore smowman today? Didn't think so. Wonder why Rush and Hannity were not talking about the topic today like they were this past winter?
The summer as a whole has been much better then summers in recent memory. August sucked, but June and July really weren't all that bad.
But it snowed last winter, so it cancels out, right?
