When you think of congested roadways in Texas, it's likely that images of vehicles crawling along the interstates in places like Houston and Dallas come to mind. But traffic problems are not limited to the large cities. One route in Aggieland has been ranked as one of the hundred most congested roadways in Texas.
University Drive from Wellborn to Hwy. 6 ranked 58th in the list of most congested roadways in the state. It's estimated that over 300,000 hours were wasted waiting in traffic on the route.
The most congested roadway in Texas for 2009 was found to be in Houston. I-45 from SL 8 North to I-610 caused over 4.5 million hours of delay last year.

I don't get it. Nobody is making an intelligent observation. Bryan-College Station needs an East-West corridor. There is no quick easy way to go from the east to the west side of town. If I need to go from South College Station to North Bryan, all I need to do is get on Highway 6. To go from east to west, I have to use University or Villa Maria. I think that is the whole point of this article. When are we going to start planning for this?
We need another north/south road from the north end of Bryan to the far end of College Station and, if I remember correctly, it was suggested by a study more than a decade ago. So far no one has spent the money for the land for it. The new road would allow non University traffic to get past the University and not be part of the congestion. East/West you can go fairly easily but north/south more and more roads are being cut off. Once College Main is closed that traffic will have to use Wellborn or Texas Avenue as well. The intersections with University should be really interesting. If Wellborn is rebuilt with new lanes to help correct the drainage and cover up or move the railroad tracks that might compensate for the loss of College Main but would it help with any future growth? Where is that traffic going to go? I guess nothing will happen until there is a real crisis. Once all the pedestrian tunnels are under Wellborn how long will they last before replacement closing the road?
This has been stated years before. So, what does the city decide to do? Fill it with restaurants so that it becomes even more congested!!!
