Job seekers beware; finding a job this fall may not be easy.

One job seeker Tametka Burns is desperate, "I'm just open for anything that will hire me."

According to a recent Manpower Survey, Bryan/College Station is expected to have the most layoffs out of 30 Texas cities.

Ten percent of companies interviewed plan to hire more employees between October and December. Twenty-three percent plan to layoff workers and 67 percent plan to maintain their staff levels.

"You're either growing or you're dying, and so I think it's very important for us as a community to be concerned about us always trying to maintain a level of growth in our community," said Royce Hickman with the B/CS Chamber of Commerce.

But, local job market experts say the growth isn't happening where it counts.

Retail and service trades remain strong, but big business is suffering.

"Our area isn't exercising a whole lot of growth in industry, maybe in retail, but not in industry because we don't attract that because we don't have the labor pool," said Manpower representative Nancy Conley.

The result is underemployment; people taking jobs they're overqualified for because that's all that's available.

Job seeker Craig Barnard is worn out, but confident.

"It has been difficult but I haven't lost faith I haven't given up. I know there's something out there for me," said Barnard.

Despite the gloomy job market forecast in Aggieland, only seven percent of companies interviewed nationwide plan to reduce their payrolls.
