'The Zone' at Kyle Field Gets Digital Menu Makeover

As football fans navigate their way from the ticket line up to "The Zone" at Kyle Field, or the drive-thru line at McDonalds, or even at Brazos Valley Bank...something may catch your eye: digital menu boards.

With clients in more than 40 different countries, College Station-based 'Texas Digital' has been flying under the radar locally for more than 30 years. And President Dennis Davidson is prepared to serve up your needs...digitally that is.

"We do digital signage for many verticals including: restaurants, banks, entertainment venues and one of our new markets is sports venues," explained Davidson.

Including the Alamodome in San Antonio and the "Zone Club" at Texas A&M.

"Content is king so we put a lot of effort in giving them a jazzy exciting display."

More than a dozen LED flat screen TV’s at the Zone Club are equipped with interactive video, up to the minute football scores, player profiles and even a digital food menu--football fans will have access to the game virtually anywhere in the Zone.

"If you need to step away from the game-action to get some food, your wait time is perceived to be less and you’re going to have the game in front of you," said Davidson. "You can watch the game on the video feed as opposed to seeing it live on the field."

And according to Davidson, an engaged customer is a happy customer.

I think it's hilarious how the first thing people do is jump to conclusions about cost. Not only does the digital menus sound stellar, if you think about the big picture, it's ultimately very green. Reducing the carbon footprint that go into advertising, marketing. It's also convenient. Plus A&M is investing in a local company. Kudos to Aggieland and Kudos to Texas Digital.

Yes, it comes from donations. Wonderful. It just shows how skewed the priorities of some alumni are... as long as as campus is nice seven days in the fall, who cares about the whole "world-class university" thing? Want to donate some money? Great! How about some scholarships or fellowships, or maybe earmark your donation for facilities improvement, the library, the Corps, or whatever department you graduated from back in the good Ol' Army days. Betcha that money will filter back into the economy and multiply just as well. It may not be as glamorous and sexy as big screens at Kyle Field, but the impact will carry much further than just that week worth of days during football season. Crazy thoughts, I know.

Personally don't care if the sign is digital, plastic or chiseled in rock. Just bring back Coke!
