The football game was not the only tense situation Friday night at Merrill Green Stadium in Bryan.

Police Sergeant Dennis Thane was working security at the football game when he received information that a wanted felon was outside the stadium.

Thane said he spotted the suspect, Peter Russel Olsen, based on information from an intelligence report circulated by Bryan Police within the last few weeks.

Olsen's charges:

  • (3) Violation of bond
  • Assault Family/House Member
  • Burglary of a Habitation with intent to commit other crime
  • Evading Arrest/Detention
  • Unlawful possession of firearm
  • Tamper with ID numbers
  • Failure to ID as a fugitive
  • Possession of weapon in weapon-free-zone

Thane tried approaching the suspect but he took off passing Bryan High's Silver and Blue campuses and crossing busy 29th Street and Briarcrest Drive.

Police backup arrived on the other side of the Walgreen's on 29th Street and blocked the suspect in the parking lot.

Thane arrested the person without incident. He said the man is local and is wanted on at least one felony and could possibly be charged with evading arrest and giving police a false name.

A Bryan Police K-9 officer was called in to assist police in locating a gun after Sgt. Thane and other officers found bullets on the suspect. The K-9 eventually found the empty revolver in front of the Bryan High campus.

I've met, and talked to Pete, and I think he could be a decent guy, if he wanted to. But honestly, he doesn't want to. He wants to live the life he does, and this is where it got him. Thank you to Srgt. Thane for his good work!
