Did you know that nearly 34% of adults are obese in America? 17% of children are also overweight. That's according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. If you knew more about what you are eating, would it make a difference in what you order?

"More women ask about it than men, but...You'd be surprised at how many men come in here and eat salads," said Elaine Watts, the shift director at a Bryan Burger King.

She's talking about the nutritional information posted inside the dining room. And that's not the only place you can find it either.

Watts said, "If somebody comes through drive through, we have little ones folded up that we can hand out to them."

Federal law, signed by President Obama in March, requires restaurant chains with 20 or more locations to supply calorie counts on their food items. Stores have until March of 2011 to make nutritional information impossible to miss, but restaurants like Bryan's Burger King are already making that information available to its customers.

Ishmael Flores said, "I wouldn't want to eat a lot of calories on one thing. That's like a whole day's worth."

"{It} definitely help{s} me a whole lot because I don't want to consume 760 grams of fat in one sitting," commented Matt Beachy.

Some try to make smarter choices for themselves.

"It pertains to my dad, he had some heart issues, so I want to do a little preventive maintenance," added Beachy.

Others want to keep their loved ones healthy.

"Because of the obesity and kids nowadays and...if you take care of it when you're younger, it's a lot easier," Watts said.

Flores said, "I wouldn't want to come out and spend ten, $10 on a meal."

Still, other people say price is more important than nutritional value.

"I only ordered this because it was a dollar," added Flores.

So, do calorie postings really make a difference in what people order?

Watts said, "Some do, but others, sometimes, they'll say well, I'm on a diet, I'm going to splurge one day a week."

"Most of the people who come for fast food know what they're getting into and they're not coming here to eat a salad. They're coming here to eat double meat, double cheese," said Beachy.

You can have it your way, and soon just about every place will provide what you need to make smarter choices. In case you're curious, A McDonald's Happy Meal with chicken nuggets, small fries and a one percent low fat chocolate milk has 580 calories and 26 grams of fat. A Burger King Whopper has 670 calories and 40 grams of fat, and Jack in the Box's Bacon Ultimate Cheeseburger, 937 calories and 65 grams of fat.

I think it's great for them to post that, if nothing else, just for awareness. I don't think it will make a HUGE difference because you can still find this information online. If i'm in the mood for a greasy buger, then I will get one. I knew the calories, etc BEFORE i even drove up to the window!

Yet again, government intrusion where it is not needed. Does it take a PhD to figure out that a fast food burger is very high in calories. Are we just that stupid out here in the real world? Apparently the government thinks people are. Another side benefit of the nanny state.... blah, blah, blah law. As they say, every time congress makes a joke it is a law, and everytime they make a law it is a joke. Case in point.
