A new home in Bryan is being built by the strength of women. On Saturday, Habitat for Humanity’s "Women Build" got underway.
Forty-five local women are sponsoring the Thurman family home. That means all the construction will be done by women. In addition to labor hours, each female worker is contributing a $1,000.
One group of women helping to build the new house is from College Station Independent School District. Teacher Robyn Keefer says it is important for students to know women can contribute to society in every way.
"Set an example for the children that we teach and show them that women can empower themselves and help to great things for our community,” Keefer said.
Coincidentally, the soon-to-be homeowner of the all women built house is Odessa Thurman who happens to be the mother of 11 daughters.
