There were deadly results from dozing at the wheel on Highway 21 Monday morning.
At approximately 7:30 a.m., 61-year-old Scott Allen Keller and 26-year-old Melanie Fisher were a little more than two miles from entering Caldwell from the east when Keller apparently fell asleep at the wheel, this according to DPS.
Once he awoke, authorities believe Keller tried to correct his steering after his car went off the righthand side of the road into a ditch, but he was unable to recover. The vehicle collided with a tree.
Both Keller and Fisher were killed on impact. Only Fisher was wearing her seat belt.
