A victim of plagiarism tells Aggies how a national scandal changed her life and her work.
Macarena Hernandez is the first speaker in a week of events devoted to academic integrity at Texas A&M.
Hernandez is a journalist for the San Antonio Express-News whose work was plagiarized by former New York Times reporter Jayson Blair.
Blair and Hernandez were both interns at the New York Times five years earlier.
Hernandez told the crowd, "Trust is not for sale and it isn't for free. You have to earn it."
Hernandez was asked to speak by the newly formed Honor Office at the university.
The office was created to promote the honor code: "Aggies do not lie cheat or steal or tolerate those who do."
