Grimes County Cleanup

An environmental cleanup is underway at the site of last week's tanker explosion in Grimes County.

On Sept. 13, a fuel truck loaded with diesel crashed on Highway 30 between Carlos and Roans Prairie while trying to avoid a car whose driver had fallen asleep. The overturned tanker dumped about eight thousand gallons of diesel which caught fire and exploded.

Tuesday, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality led a remediation team to remove contaminated soil from the area. Bolero Pipeline officials were also on hand because one of its pipelines runs directly underneath the contaminated area.

Officials expect to complete the cleanup by Wednesday, Sept. 22.
