CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) - State Child Protective Services officials say a two-year-old girl who was found bruised and abandoned inside a locked bathroom in Corpus Christi may have been left alone for up to two days.
Police found the toddler Sunday night after upstairs neighbors in the apartment complex reported hearing crying and banging in a bathtub below.
A case worker reported in an affidavit filed yesterday that the lock on the bathroom door had been inverted so it was locked from the outside. The case worker said it looked like the girl had not eaten for a couple of days.
Police say they're still searching for the child's mother, 28-year-old Adrianna Mendietta.
The child was placed in a foster home yesterday.
Doctors say she had bruises on her backside, legs, arms and right ear when she was found.
