"We started out as with a log building, the first one, and in 1939 they built a second church," said Sherrell Cooper, a long time member.

The building may have changed over time, but the spirit of the Alexander United Methodist Church is still the same. Now its members, old and new, are celebrating the church's 150th anniversary. Sherrell Cooper helped plan for this year's big event and has always taken part in the homecoming for the past 50 years.

I just remember all of the people getting together and the families getting together and just having a wonderful dinner together. Lots of good Christian friendship," said Cooper.

The sanctuary was packed at the morning worship service where former Pastors spoke. There was also music and lunch in the outdoors amongst the trees, something members enjoy most.

"Everyone likes the trees and the outdoors and we have a good church," said Dell Moomey, an 80 year member.

The small rural church has been serving the Tabor and surrounding communities for decades. It claims to be the oldest established church in Brazos County.

"It's kind of off the beaten path. People really have to look for it to find it, but we have good fellowship here," said Cooper.

The church is located on Alexander Cemetery Road, just off of Tabor Road.
