AUSTIN (AP) - A jury in Austin has sentenced a man to death for the August 2006 murder of his ex-girlfriend's mother.
Jurors deliberated about six hours before returning the death sentence for 25-year-old Selwyn P. Davis.
Davis on October 4th was convicted of capital murder in the stabbing death of 57-year-old Regina Lara.
The Austin American-Statesman reports that, during trial, the judge threatened to handcuff Davis after courtroom witnesses said he turned and made an obscene gesture toward the victim's family.
It wasn't clear whether any jurors saw the hand gesture.
