HOUSTON (AP) - Prosecutors will retry fired Texas Southern University president Priscilla Slade in a criminal financial mismanagement case.
Harris County District Attorney Chuck Rosenthal says, "We believe she stole money."
Slade's almost two-month trial ended in a mistrial Friday on a charge of misapplication of fiduciary property after the jury in Houston said they were deadlocked.
Slade is accused of spending more than $500,000 of TSU funds on personal expenses including furniture, bar tabs and landscaping for her home.
Defense attorney Mike DeGeurin has said that the costs were reasonable and necessary for Slade to improve the school in Houston.
