City of Brenham to Cut Jobs

The Brenham city council wants to cut the budget by five percent, even if it means firing employees.

The council has formed a committee to help develop a plan of action that will single out the best areas to cut back from.

City manager Terry Roberts said the council is trying to replenish a low general fund.

The five percent cut equals nearly 11 jobs, but Roberts said if the city can reduce that number it will.

"Two and a half percent of salaries, two and a half percent of other line items, that sort of thing may be possible, but the indication that I got in the budget session was the council wanted us to look strongly in the personnel area," said Roberts

A proposal on the cut backs is expected before Thanksgiving.
