There's been no way to pick up garbage from the international space station.
The Columbia catastrophe early last year halted shuttle flights, and that ended the hauling away of trash from the space station. So, it's looking more and more like a cluttered attic -- "Room limited," is the way one astronaut describes it.
The hope is to have shuttle deliveries and pickups resume in the spring, but the shuttle launch site in Florida was battered by the recent hurricanes.
A few weeks ago, both astronauts who live in the space station tossed some useless junk out into space, but they had to be careful so the discarded items wouldn't become deadly boomerangs.
