Was it an unprovoked outburst or self defense? That's the question a Grimes County jury will decide starting Tuesday.

Opening arguments begin in Anderson in the murder trial of 36-year-old Rodney Gray. Gray is accused of gunning down 30-year-old Jeffrey Pierce last March after the two exchanged words.

Pierce was taken to Huntsville Memorial Hospital where he died from gunshot wounds. Gray was captured the following morning after spending the night wandering the rural roads of Grimes County. Authorities say Gray confessed to pulling the trigger, but claims it was in self defense.
