Texas Execution

Posted: Tue 1:00 PM, Oct 05, 2004

Convicted killer Edward Green is set to be executed today for gunning down a 72-year-old man and a 63-year-old woman during a robbery in Houston 12 years ago.

He'd be the 14th Texas inmate put to death this year and the first of two on consecutive nights this week.

The 30-year-old says prison has been a blessing in disguise, making him thankful for the life he has.

Green's lawyers are trying to stop the punishment by raising questions over the reliability of ballistics evidence presented at his trial. Some of the evidence was analyzed by the Houston Police Department crime lab. The lab has been criticized for its treatment of evidence for months.

Green's attorneys say his execution should be delayed until those problems are worked out.
