A Brenham woman is sentenced to 17 years in prison for fatally stabbing her own brother in an argument over a cell phone.

Cassandra Newsome, 23, pleaded guilty to manslaughter Tuesday in connection with the January death of her brother Earvin Newsome, 22.

The siblings' sister Yolanda testified the three were at Cassandra's Gay Hill Street home when she heard Earvin choking Cassandra. She said the fight moved into the kitchen where Cassandra grabbed a knife and stabbed her brother.

Earvin later died of a punctured lung at Trinity Medical Center.
