Governor Orders Review of State's Hurricane Evacuation Plans

The recent hurricane havoc in Florida has spurred Governor Rick Perry to order a review of the state's hurricane evacuation plans. He says he wants to make sure residents of coastal areas can escape.

In a statement issued today, Perry has asked Steve McCraw, director of Homeland Security for Texas, review existing evacuation routes, traffic-control plans and the coordination among various governments needed to handle it.

McGraw will also gather input from local community leaders along
the state's coastal areas and from Texas legislators, as well as Florida officials, as part of his assessment.

Perry told legislators he'd make recommendations based on the assessment and would share the study's results with them. He has asked for the report no later than February 15th.
