A plan to relocate a College Station fire station has some residents alarmed.

Several homeowners from the Shenandoah subdivision expressed their opposition at Thursday's planning and zoning meeting. Concerns ranged from decreased property values to safety issues.

The city plans to move Fire Station Three to a site near the intersection of Alexandria and Barron Road from its current location on the Highway 6 frontage road. The city says the move is necessary because the frontage roads are about to be converted to one-way roads which would hamper emergency response.

Shenandoah resident David Rudd told the planning and zoning board that he and his neighbors feel left out of the loop. "No one in the area got anything about any notification that the zoning was to be done to put a fire station there," Rudd said.

Because the issue wasn't listed on the posted agenda, the planning and zoning commission could neither respond nor take action on the matter.
