Some Texas election officials are struggling to find enough Spanish-speaking clerks to work at polling places on Election Day.
The scramble comes amid increased federal monitoring of how counties comply with election requirements for bilingual clerks and election materials.
Potter County Clerk Sue Daniel says it's hard to find people willing to put in a 14-hour day. And it's especially hard to find people who speak
Spanish.
Election officials have tried to find Spanish speakers through the Internet, newspapers, radio, television and Hispanic chambers of commerce. Still, some counties say they aren't sure they'll be able to recruit enough bilingual workers to meet state guidelines.
Texas has required bilingual election clerks and bilingual election materials since 1975.
