An accident this morning shut down parts of Harvey Road and Highway 6. At about 7 o'clock the Southbound lane of Highway Six was reopened. Texas Department of Transportation says they are hoping to let traffic back on to Harvey road sometime tonight.

The accident happened around noon Friday . Police say a garbage truck was traveling on Harvey road when its hoist hit an overpass support beam.

Officials don't know if the accident was caused by operator error or an equipment malfunction.

Engineers from the Texas Department of Transportation are traveling from Austin to inspect the damage to the overpass.

Traffic has been diverted to the feeder roads. Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid the area.
