High-Tech 7-Eleven

They're going high-tech at the Seven-Eleven.

Workers at a Seven-Eleven convenience store in Rockwall are testing a new wireless computer system that lets employees use a touch screen device to place orders and manage inventory more efficiently than before.

Dallas-based Seven-Eleven Incorporated plans to roll out the system at all of its 53-hundred locations in the United States next year.

Company officials say the technology promises to change the way convenience stores are run.

Seven-eleven is the nation's largest convenience store operator.

The company is using technology in other ways to drive sales. One example is the V-com kiosk. It's basically a beefed-up automated teller machine that also sells car insurance, cashes payroll checks, makes wire transfers and allows online shopping with a limited stable of retailers.
