Twist in Grimes County Murder Case

The man accused of killing a prominent Navasota civic leader won't have to stand trial again for murder. But he will stand trial for capital murder.

David White is accused of gunning down Lonnie Turner Senior back in November of 2002. White's first trial last October ended with a deadlocked jury. His re-trial was supposed to start today.

But District Attorney Tuck McLain has dismissed the original murder charge and filed a new charge against White for capital murder. McLain said he believes he can prove White acted alone in murdering Turner during the commission of a crime.

White contends he was forced to pull the trigger by Turner's own son, Lonnie Turner Junior. A pretrial hearing on the capital murder charge is set for December.
