Whooping Cough In Bryan School

Parent's of students at Stephen F. Austin may have been surprised when they opened their mail Wednesday and found a letter from the school nurse. A 7th grade student at the Bryan school has been diagnosed with Whooping Cough.

According to the district the student was diagnosed Monday, October 11. The Brazos Valley Health Department recommended Monday afternoon the district send letters to parents of all students. District Spokesperson Sandy Farris says because Monday was a school holiday, the letters went out first thing Tuesday morning.

Whooping Cough, is an infection of the respiratory system and is contagious.

If your child attends Stephan F Austin Middle School and has an unexplained cough it's recommended you consult a physician immediately.
