A bus driver has been convicted in some of the decade-long series of women's murders in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.
A judge found a bus driver guilty of eight slayings.
Victor Garcia Uribe, alias "El Cerillo" - was sentenced to 50 years in prison on each of the counts -- the maximum under Mexican law.
The case involves the 2001 deaths of eight women whose bodies were found dumped in a vacant lot in Juarez, across the border from El Paso, Texas.
Sentences in Mexico are served concurrently.
But Garcia Uribe claimed he was tortured into making what appeared to be a wooden and rehearsed videotaped confession -- which prosecutors later showed on television. His co-defendent, fellow bus driver Gustavo
Gonzalez Meza, died in 2003 while in police custody.
Many of the victims were last seen boarding, or waiting for, buses.
