A new study says there is enough federal assistance for college but a large number of students aren't applying for it.

The American Council on Education reports half of students who go to a university that participates in federal assistance programs did not fill out the main application for aid.

That includes 1.7 million low and moderate income students.

Texas A&M financial aid awards $329 million in assistance every year to 70 percent of its student population.

And they say it gets easier every year to get the money students need.

Executive Director of Student Financial Aid at Texas A&M Arnold Trejo says, "I hate to think about the money that is foregone because a student didn't want to take 20 to 30 minutes to fill out an application."

A&M has a new streamlined system that only requires one application for 1,800 scholarships.
