Layoffs will likely come after budget cuts in Brenham, but there is still no word on how many people will lose their jobs.
The city council wants to trim spending by 5%, even if it means reducing the workforce.
City manager Terry Roberts said the personnel committee met October 14th to talk about criteria for cuts and severance pay. Brenham might even contract out a part-time city attorney to save money.
Roberts said the council is trying to build back up the city's dwindling general fund.
