A federal appeals court says the Air Force has to do another environmental study on a B-One bomber practice route in West Texas.
The ruling involves an area stretching from Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene -- nearly to El Paso.
The Davis Mountains Trans-Pecos Heritage Association sued in 2001. Members say low-altitude flights created a "battlefield environment" on private property below, affected livestock and damaged buildings from all the vibration.
The Fifth U-S Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday ruled the existing statement adequately addressed economic impact of flights and their effects on livestock. But the court had concerns about turbulence and impact on aviation.
The Air Force and the Federal Aviation Administration were ordered to do a -supplemental- environmental impact statement on the route.
