TYE, Texas — A two-vehicle wreck in West Texas that left five people hurt happened as one of the drivers was accidentally shot and killed.
The crash occurred on Interstate 20 near Tye.
Authorities say a passenger in a pickup was holding a hunting rifle that accidentally discharged -- fatally shooting the driver.
The victim was 22-year-old James Michael Edwards of Abilene.
Investigators say Sunday night's shooting caused the Edwards truck to cross the median and collide head-on with another pickup.
Three men in the Edwards vehicle were injured, along with two people in the other pickup.
Officers had secured the crash site and helped the injured when turned their attention to the driver who had died at the scene -- and realized he'd been shot.
