Officials from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Friday say a clerk at the Connally Unit died from head trauma after being pushed to the floor of a storage room by a prisoner at the maximum security facility south of San Antonio.

Michelle Lyons says 33-year-old Rhonda Osborne was attacked and choked Thursday by Gary Laskowski before being shoved down and hitting her head.

Osborne, who'd worked at the prison for five years, was pronounced dead at a Karnes City hospital.

Thirty-eight-year-old Laskowski later killed himself by cutting his neck and wrists with a sharp-edged object.

He'd been serving a life sentence on two counts of aggravated sexual assault in Nueces County.

The bodies of Osborne and Laskowski were sent to San Antonio for autopsy by the Bexar County Medical Examiner's office.

Laskowski had been in prison since 1998, and he was moved to Connally in 2002.

He was eligible for parole in 2007.
