Sanderson Farms employees will head back to work Tuesday after being evacuated Monday night from another ammonia leak.
According to Mike Cockrell, a spokesperson for Sanderson Farms, Monday night’s leak came from the red water chiller which sits up on top of the plant.
The equipment detected the leak in time for everyone to get out of the building around 8:30 p.m. Monday.
Nobody was taken to the hospital and Sanderson Farms was closed down for the first shift Tuesday morning, but they expect to re-open the plant for the second shift at 2 p.m.
This is the second leak in the past week. The first leak sent almost 20 people to the hospital.
According to Bryan officials, last week, the leak was small and they re-opened the plant an hour and a half after the initial call. Sanderson Farms officials say they still don't know what caused last week’s ammonia leak.
