Texas Death Row Inmate Wins Reprieve, State Appealing

A federal judge -- for now -- has blocked tonight's scheduled execution of Texas death row inmate Dominique Green.

But state lawyers are working to get the stay of execution
lifted.

Green was condemned for the 1992 slaying of a man in Houston
during a robbery.

The victim was Andrew Lastrapes Jr.

U-S District Judge Nancy Atlas blocked the execution after
Green's attorneys argued that boxes of improperly stored and
catalogued evidence -- could help his case.

Those recently discovered documents were kept by the Houston
Police Department crime lab.

The defense said Green's execution should be stopped until
attorneys can look through all the files.

Prosecutors have said all evidence has been accounted for in
Green's case.

Green would be the 18th Texas death row inmate to receive lethal
injection this year.
