Shelf Talkers

For many Brazos Valley families, putting food on their tables this holiday season isn't a luxury, it's a challenge.

But it is easy to help make a nice holiday dinner become a reality. All local grocery stores have shelf talkers, which are pieces of paper located next to the items the food bank desperately needs. Store managers say the community's response has been tremendous.

"It's been real good. With these new shelf talkers we have, people can come in our store and look for themselves and see what items the food bank's actually looking for," said HEB Store Director Mike McKinney.

Bryan resident, Greg Williams, says he knows how tough life can be at times, so he tries to donate to the less fortunate whenever he can.

"I'm going to buy food this year to donate to the food drive. Some of us that are fortunate and are blessed and we can donate to help people," said Williams.

All non-perishable food is accepted, but there is always a great need for canned meats, soups, and vegetables and pasta. Household and personal items such as detergents and soaps are also needed.

You can also purchase pre-packaged bags. They already contain items needed for the food bank.

The KBTX Food for Families Food Drive will be held Wednesday, Dec. 15, at the Brazos Center. The drive will be all day long, from 5:30 a.m. until 10:30 p.m.
