The Brazos County Juvenile Detention Center's director was put on administrative leave Friday afternoon.
Rhonda Gilchrist came under fire this summer for laying off several detention center employees. Twice, Gilchrist was cleared on charges of wrongful termination.
But in an executive session today, the juvenile board put Gilchrist on paid leave to further examine her record. Assistant Director Colin Coker will fill in. Brazos County Judge Randy Sims, who serves on the board, said past allegations of wrongful termination had nothing to do with Friday’s action.
Also in Friday’s meeting, a former employee fired by Gilchrist pleaded to be reinstated, but he was denied.
