Red Cross Needs More Blood

During the holiday season, donating blood can be forgotten in the hustle and bustle of all that's going on. That's why American Red Cross wants to remind people to give the gift of life at this time of year.

The blood supply for the Southwest Region is running low and there's a big demand for O-positive and O-negative blood.

Theresa Evangelista with the American Red Cross says, "Its one way you can help save a life. One pint of blood can benefit three people when divided into three components through red blood cells, platelets and plasma."

From now until March 1, all those donating at any Red Cross center or mobile blood drive will be automatically entered into a drawing for a four-day, three-night trip to New York City. It also includes $1,000 spending money.

You must be 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health to donate blood. All donors are reminded to bring a picture ID. when coming to donate.

Call 1-800-GIVE LIFE or log onto www.givelife.org to make an appointment to donate blood.
